Privateers Fall Short in Low Scoring Contest Against Stephen F. Austin

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers got a solid outing on the mound from Reid Leonard but weren't able to break through on offense in a 3-1 loss to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on Saturday at Maestri Field.

Leonard kept his pitch count down early as he kept the Lumberjacks off the scoreboard until the fourth inning when an Ethan Pena single through the left side scored Julian Swift to put the Lumberjacks up 1-0.

The Privateers had a couple of early opportunities including getting the first two men aboard against Lumberjacks starter, Gabe LeBlanc in the opening frame. LeBlanc pitched SFA out of the jam by inducing a double play.

Leonard pitched into the sixth and struck out six batters before giving way to Lane Alack who pitched the remainder of the game. Leonard allowed two runs on four hits in his outing.

The Lumberjacks made it 2-0 in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout from Mark Henning. A solo homer from Ethan Pena in the ninth extended that advantage to 3-0.

New Orleans got on the scoreboard in their last turn at the plate. Karson Evans got aboard on a two-base fielding error and he was brought home by Adrian Dominguez who had two hits on the day.

Jack James came on to finish the game and he pitched the last five innings while allowing an unearned run. He struck out three to pick up his first decision of the year.

INSIDE THE BOX
Kareh Valentin went 3-for-3 on the day. Alack pitched the last 3.2 innings for the Privateers and struck out two. Carson Hepworth went 1-for-4 with a double. Eli Tidwell and Owen Smith each had a hit.
