Privateers Shut Out Mississippi Valley State

NEW ORLEANSRex Henderson threw four shutout innings to set the tone and the offense erupted from the sixth inning on as the New Orleans Privateers defeated the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 14-0 on Tuesday at Maestri Field.

A pitcher's duel early gave way to an offensive explosion starting in the sixth. The Privateers were guarding a 1-0 lead in the sixth when New Orleans went on a six-run splurge that was keyed by two homers.

Owen Smith blasted a 3-1 pitch to left that led off the inning. Four batters later, Jayden Adcox worked a 2-0 count before he smashed a three-run home run to left-center, his first of the season.

From there, the Privateers put up crooked numbers in each of the next two innings. With the bases loaded and one out, Kareh Valentin drove a ball deep enough that not only scored a run on the sac fly, but moved the other two runners up a station. Collin Loupe then punched a single to right-center that scored two and got the Privateers to a double-digit lead.

New Orleans posted four runs in the eighth inning. Adcox hit a double to shallow right that plated two runs. A Dathan Cummings RBI single and a Loupe single to center accounted for the other two runs.

Henderson worked a season-high four innings and allowed just two hits and a walk while recording two strikeouts. Gus Rogers, Brock Hill, Luke Hymel, Myles Green and Skylar Jones combined to complete the shutout. The staff as a whole punched out 11 batters, which was a new season-high.

INSIDE THE BOX
