NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane Green Wave scored four runs in the first inning and made it hold as they defeated the New Orleans Privateers 5-2 on Tuesday night at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The win gave the Pelican Cup back to the Green Wave.
After Kaikea Harrison doubled and Tanner Chun was hit by a pitch on an 0-2 count, the Green Wave drew four consecutive walks that helped bring in three runs. The Green Wave got one more in on an RBI groundout by Brett Rowell.
The Privateers brought in
Luke Hymel who proceeded to shut down the Green Wave offense for the next five innings. He allowed just two hits and two walks in his longest outing of the season.
New Orleans got on the board in the fifth inning against Blaise Wilcenski. With runners on the corners a delayed double steal was on with
Evan Rogers taking second base. On the throw down to second,
Dylan Biddick took off for home and scored to get the Privateers their first run of the game.
The Privateers chipped away a little more when
Kareh Valentin ripped a single into shallow center that brought in
Eddie Castillo to make the score 4-2 in the seventh inning.
However, Tulane got a run back in their half of the seventh. With runners on the corners and two outs, Nate Johnson hit a line drive single into right, which brought in Harrison to make it 5-2.
Sam Larson pitched 2.1 innings and struck out five batters. He gave the ball to Beau Sampson who recorded a strikeout to finish the night for Tulane and give him his first save of the season.
