MONROE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers scored early and put up runs in seven of their nine innings at the plate, but it wasn't enough in a 17-12 loss against the ULM Warhawks on Wednesday at Lou St. Amant Field.
The Privateers got two runs on the board before ULM came to bat thanks to the start of a big night from
Miles Curley. A two-run single to left-center drove in
Owen Smith and
Eli Tidwell to give New Orleans the early lead.
ULM responded with three runs in their half of the first, but that lead was short-lived. New Orleans struck back for two runs in the second on a Curley RBI double and a
Dylan Biddick RBI single.
The Warhawks though put up another big number, this time a five-spot in the second that included a Marcus Aranda homer. ULM was up 8-4 at that point and though the Privateers kept putting pressure, they never got closer than within three runs for the remainder of the night.
ULM scored four runs in the fourth inning off the benefit of just one hit, a Kade Dupont single. The rest of the inning consisted of two walks, a hit batter, two wild pitches and three errors that helped the Warhawks extend their lead to 12-5.
New Orleans got back to within three runs in the eighth inning when
Collin Husser blasted his first homer of the year, a solo shot off of Tyler Roark. That moved the score to 15-12, but ULM plated two runs in their half of the eighth to help stave off the rally.
In what was the 65
th meeting, the 29 combined runs represented the third highest total between the two sides in series history.
Jake Haggard had two hits and four RBI all within his first two at-bats. Davis Mauzy, Micah Dean and Bryce Blaser each scored three runs. The Warhawks gave up 11 walks on the mound.
