Southeastern Takes Wild Series Opener Over Privateers

HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers were denied the finish of a stellar comeback as Southeastern homered in the eighth to snag a 13-11 decision on Friday night at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

The Privateers rallied back twice in the late stages. After trailing 7-1 through four innings, the Privateers got two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. That set up a huge seventh inning where Kruise Newman homered to tie the game at 7-7.

Jayden Adcox followed shortly after as the Privateers got to the Lions bullpen for 10 runs. Adcox blasted a no doubt homer to left to give New Orleans the lead. An RBI single capped off the big inning to put the Privateers ahead 10-7.

Southeastern responded with a three-run inning of their own. The third homer of the night by Justin Williams, all of them to right field from the right-handed batter, brought the Lions back within a run. They later tied the score on a Blaise Priester double. Priester would come into play once more, which gave the Lions the win.

Dylan Biddick cracked a solo homer to put New Orleans back in front in the eighth but that lead was short lived. With two on and two outs, Priester hit a towering fly ball that snuck over the wall in left for a three-run homer to put Southeastern back in front.

Tristan Todorowski went back out in the ninth and retired the side in order to secure the win for the Lions as he picked up his first win of the season.

There were nine combined homers between both sides on the night. Southeastern also got three hits and a run from Ben Robichaux and two hits from Brody Capps.

INSIDE THE BOX
Tyler Velino lowered his season ERA to 0.59 after 2.1 scoreless innings. Biddick also drew two walks on top of his two homers. Evan Rogers went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs. Owen Smith had two hits and Brice Deaton threw a scoreless inning out of the pen.
