HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers rallied from an early deficit to tie the game in the fifth inning, but it was Southeastern who emerged victorious by a 7-5 score line on Sunday afternoon to complete the series sweep.
The Privateers drove up Blake Lobell's pitch count early and
Kruise Newman got New Orleans on the board first. A mammoth homer to dead center put two runs on the board after Southeastern got out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning.
With the Privateers trailing 5-2 in the fifth,
Evan Rogers and
Adrian Dominguez had a pair of crucial at-bats. Rogers saw three more pitches after falling behind 0-2 in the count before he singled through the right side to drive in
Owen Smith.
Adrian Dominguez followed by fouling off four two-strike pitches after he fell behind 0-2 in the count. Dominguez then hit a two-run homer to right that tied the game at 5-5.
However, the Lions responded with a run of their own to go back ahead. After a Peyton Woods double to lead off the frame, Connor Cuff grounded out to first which allowed Woods to score the go-ahead run. Southeastern added another run in the sixth on a Ben Robichaux sac fly.
Meanwhile, the Lions turned the ball over to Nik Toups who held the Privateers without a hit over 3.2 innings. New Orleans drew a pair of walks though in the ninth when
Dylan Biddick got on with one out and Newman drew a free pass with two outs. The Lions called on Dakota Lee to close the game and he did with a strikeout of the first batter he faced.
The sweep is the first in the series between the two clubs since 2022.
Dane Watts went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Blaise Priester went 2-for-3 with a double. Robichaux had a hit, a sac fly and two RBI. Toups struck out four batters over 3.2 innings.
