MOBILE, Ala. – The 3-4-5 hitters in the New Orleans Privateers order generated two runs and that's all that was needed behind a strong pitching performance in a 2-1 win over the South Alabama Jaguars on Tuesday at Stanky Field.
The win is the fifth consecutive for the Privateers over the Jaguars. It's the longest winning streak over South Alabama since New Orleans won eight straight from 1992-95.
South Alabama got on the board first in the second inning, but a key defensive play came off the back of the first and only Jaguars run.
Rett Johnson doubled to right center which scored Paxton Bigby. Mike Young was following on his heels but a strong relay from
Eli Tidwell to
Evan Rogers to
Jayden Adcox cut down Young at the plate to limit the scoring to just one run.
After that inning, Privateer pitchers allowed just two hits and only allowed one baserunner in the last four innings.
Meanwhile, the Privateer offense broke through against Jaguars starter,
Hayden O'Dell for two runs in the fourth to take the lead.
Owen Smith started things off with a double and was driven in by
Kruise Newman's second hit of the night, an RBI single back up the middle.
Evan Rogers followed and pelted a ball at 106 MPH off the bat to right center. The ball rolled to the wall and Newman came in to score the go-ahead run. Tuesday marked the first time the Privateers held the Jaguars to under two runs in a game since 2004.
O'Dell went five innings and struck out four while allowing two runs on five hits. Four Jaguars relievers combined to allow just one hit over the last four innings. Young had the only multi-hit game for South Alabama after he went 2-for-4.
INSIDE THE BOX
Rex Henderson picked up the win, his second of the season.
Jack Garvey got the start and threw 1.1 scoreless innings to set the tone.
Gus Rogers,
Tyler Velino,

Jayden Adcox and
