Privateers Fall in Extra Innings Against McNeese in Series Opener

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers loaded the bases with two outs in the 11th inning but could not bring the tying run in as they fell 4-3 to the McNeese Cowboys on Thursday at Maestri Field.
 
The Cowboys broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the frame when Hayden Stringfellow hit a line drive over the left field fence to give McNeese a lead. Eric Nachtsheim came back out in the bottom of the 11th and faced down two runners in scoring position after Dathan Cummings walked and Eli Tidwell singled. Both men moved up on a subsequent wild pitch.
 
Owen Smith drew a walk to load the bases, but Nachtsheim came back to record a three-pitch strikeout for his fourth win of the season. Nachtsheim struck out 10 batters over five innings.
 
Both teams traded a run in the first inning. Marcus Heusohn singled to drive in Bryce Fontenot which gave the Cowboys a lead in the opening inning. Jayden Adcox provided the response for the Privateers when he punched a single into shallow center, marking one of four times he reached base on the night.
 
The Cowboys grabbed the lead back in the top of the second when Fontenot reached on a two-out fielding error that scored Daniel Pinkerton. The Cowboys held the lead until the sixth inning when New Orleans notched a pair of runs.
 
The Privateers loaded the bases with one out. From there, Cummings drew a walk to tie the game and Eli Tidwell also drew a free pass in five pitches to give the Privateers a 3-2 advantage.
 
The lead was short lived however as McNeese tied the game in the seventh. Fontenot singled to left with two outs to bring in Pinkerton which leveled the score at 3-3.
 
New Orleans had a threat on with one out in the tenth as they had runners on the corners, but Nachtsheim escaped by striking out the next two batters. McNeese pitchers combined for 18 strikeouts on the night.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Tidwell went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Adcox had two hits and was hit by a pitch twice. Reid Leonard got the start and pitched into the seventh, allowing two earned runs (three total) while registering five strikeouts. Lane Alack pitched 4.1 innings, tying his longest outing of the season. Owen Smith and Evan Rogers each had a double.
