HOUSTON, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers came out narrowly on the short end of a low scoring battle as they lost 2-1 to the HCU Huskies on Saturday afternoon at Husky Field. The Huskies have secured the series with the win.
The game was tied at 1-1 when HCU strung together a couple of hits to start the seventh. Katcher Halligan singled through the left side of the infield and was brought in by a double down the line from Levi Castilleja to give the Huskies the lead.
Lane Alack came in and faced runners on the corners with nobody out but he got a strikeout then a 4-3 lineout double play, which was started up by a diving catch from
Evan Rogers, one of several defensive gems throughout the game.
That run turned out to be enough for HCU as Louis Castano pitched the final 4.1 innings and retired all 13 batters faced. Castano struck out two batters and needed just 35 pitches to get through the remainder of the game.
HCU took the lead in the third inning when Preston Curtis tripled to right center, scoring Nico DeFazio. Curtis had made a big play the half inning prior as well. After
Kareh Valentin singled to start the third,
Dylan Biddick hit a line drive to left center that was snared on a diving catch by Curtis.
New Orleans battled back to tie the game in the fifth inning.
Adrian Dominguez drew a walk and
Dylan Biddick lined a double to the left field corner. With runners on second and third, an RBI ground out by Rogers brought in Dominguez to tie the game at 1-1.
Riley Marcotte had a strong outing, but was saddled with a tough luck loss. Marcotte gave up two runs in six plus innings. He threw 69 percent of his pitches for strikes and did not allow a walk on the day.
Kruise Newman also made a sliding catch in foul territory that ended the eighth inning for the Huskies. Alack pitched two scoreless innings of relief on the mound.
