HOUSTON, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers surged back in front late and
Luke Lycette shut the door in an 11-7 win over the HCU Huskies to close out the series on Sunday at Husky Field.
Trailing 7-4 in the eighth, the Privateers waited out Ben Norton who walked two batters and hit two more.
Josh Hoffmann was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and
Owen Smith scored on a wild pitch to cut the Huskies lead to one.
Then
Dylan Biddick came up two batters later and hit a ground ball that stayed fair up the first base line for a two-run double that put New Orleans in front 8-7.
Lycette then struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Privateer offense went back to work in the last frame, adding three runs to their lead.
Adrian Dominuguez singled on the first pitch he saw off the bench. Hoffmann had an RBI ground out and
Kareh Valentin singled to make the score 11-7. Lycette came back out to close out the game and after recording his fourth straight strikeout, he induced a pair of ground balls that were both handled by Valentin.
New Orleans got ahead early when
Miles Curley drilled a two-run homer over the left field wall. In the fourth, Hoffmann sent a single through the middle that scored two more to give New Orleans a 4-0 lead.
The Huskies roared back with seven straight runs from the fifth through the seventh inning. Preston Curtis got HCU on the board first with a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Then Anthony Avalos kept a ball fair down the left field line which gave HCU their first lead of the day in the sixth, but New Orleans had the final say in the finale as they scored their 11 runs on 12 hits.
Curtis, Avalos and Jeremy Rader each had two hits for the Huskies. Brock Lambert threw 2.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts for HCU.
