BATON ROUGE, La. –
Dylan Biddick drove in five runs and the New Orleans Privateers took the lead twice in the middle frames but could not make it hold up in a 10-7 loss to the LSU Tigers on Tuesday at Alex Box Stadium.
The difference making inning was in the bottom of the fifth as LSU scored all seven of their runs with two outs. With the bases loaded after a walk issued to Cade Arrambide, it was Steven Milam who tied the game on a two-run double down the line.
Omar Serna Jr. followed by hitting a single to center on a 1-2 pitch which gave the Tigers the lead. They added on three more in the frame and Jack Ruckert capped off the scoring in the frame with a two-run single of his own.
A half inning earlier, the Privateers had taken the lead thanks to Biddick's two-out, two-run single back up the middle which scored
Dathan Cummings and
Josh Hoffmann to give New Orleans a 4-2 lead.
Biddick came up again in the ninth and capped off his night with a three-run opposite field homer off Gavin Guidry, which cut the Tigers' lead in half. Guidry recovered to get the next two outs on strikeouts to finish the win for LSU.
Tiger pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts on the night. Connor Benge picked up the win to move to 2-0.
LSU got ahead with a William Patrick double in his first start of the season. That was quickly countered by the Privateers'
Kruise Newman who parked his 10
th homer of the year in the fourth to give New Orleans a 2-1 lead. That advantage was short lived however as Arrambide hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2.
Ruckert was the only Tiger who collected at least two hits on the night. Nine different Tigers scored a run on the evening.
INSIDE THE BOX
Bryson Goff threw a scoreless inning as an opener and needed just 10 pitches to get through the top of the LSU lineup. Cummings reached base three times and scored two runs. Hoffmann reached base twice and scored two runs. Newman finished 2-for-3 with a homer.
