NEW ORLEANS –
William Andrade pitched six solid innings and
Luke Lycette locked down his third save of the year as the New Orleans Privateers topped the McNeese Cowboys 5-2 on Friday at Maestri Field.
The Privateer offense got to Cowboys starter, Paul Coppinger early as they scored four runs in the first three innings and drove up his pitch count. Coppinger needed 31 pitches to get out of the first inning.
McNeese got on the board in their half of the first inning after a Hayden Stringfellow hit by pitch with the bases loaded. The Privateers responded with two runs in their half of the first though keyed by RBI doubles from
Kruise Newman and
Dathan Cummings.
New Orleans never trailed from there on out behind an efficient outing from Andrade who picked up his second win of the season. Andrade fired six innings and allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Meanwhile, the Privateers extended their lead with a run in the second and another in the third.
Owen Smith singled to left with two outs in the second and
Kareh Valentin hit a two-out RBI single in the third to build the Privateer lead to 4-1.
The Cowboys chopped a run off the lead when Daniel Pinkerton singled to left to drive in Marcus Heusohn. Andrade recovered to finish out the sixth after he induced a pair of ground outs to finish out his outing.
Skylar Jones got around a two on, two out jam when he struck out Stringfellow looking. Lycette came in and racked up the last six outs while pitching around two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
The Cowboys had seven hits spread among seven different players. Brady Corcoran threw three no-hit innings.
INSIDE THE BOX
Eli Tidwell went 2-for-4 and scored two runs to give him five total hits on the weekend. Valentin went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Smith drove in two runs. Cummings also added a stolen base, his first of the season.
