Privateers' Third Inning Offensive Outburst Sparks Series Opening Win Against Lamar

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers put up eight runs in the third inning and never looked back as they defeated the Lamar Cardinals 11-7 on Friday night in the series opener at Maestri Field.

Lamar got three runs in the second and another run in the third off a solo homer by Theo Kummer that made it 4-0 Cardinals.

That's when the Privateer offense settled in and went to work against four-time Southland Pitcher of the Week, Chris Olivier. The scoring started when Evan Rogers slapped a single through the right side that scored Jayden Adcox.

Then Miles Curley got a hanging inside breaking ball that he drilled down the left field line for the first of a pair of three-run homers in the frame. Later, Dathan Cummings extended the inning on an RBI single with two outs that gave the Privateers their first lead.

That set up Eli Tidwell who hit a line drive homer that snuck over the left field fence. His eighth round tripper of the season vaulted the Privateers to an 8-4 advantage.

New Orleans was able to add a run in each of the next three innings to keep the Cardinals in chase mode throughout the night. That was in support of Bryson Goff who pitched six innings and had seven strikeouts to just one walk.

Skylar Jones was the bridge to Lane Alack who closed the game. Jones pitched two innings and allowed one unearned run. Alack closed out the game, inducing a ground ball that turned into a game ending fielder's choice.

Kummer led the Cardinals with three hits and two RBI on the night. AJ Taylor had a homer as part of a two-hit night and Hector Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Olivier gave up eight earned runs in 3.2 innings. He had not surrendered more than three earned runs in any other start this season.

INSIDE THE BOX
Kareh Valentin was one of five Privateers who had a multi-hit night. Valentin went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Curley and Tidwell each had two hits and four RBI. Rogers went 2-for-5 and Cummings finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. After the win, the all-time series is now tied at 59-59.
