NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers gave up a four-run sixth inning and that was all the Lamar Cardinals needed as they took the decision 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.
New Orleans grabbed the lead in the third inning after
Dylan Biddick parked a two-run homer that stayed fair down the right field line. With one out, Biddick hooked a 2-1 pitch for his ninth homer of the season which put New Orleans ahead 2-1.
The Privateers kept the lead until the fifth when Lamar jumped in front on a two-run homer by Theo Kummer, his second of the weekend when he attacked the first pitch of the at-bat.
Lamar added four runs of insurance in the next inning. After a lead-off single by Lane Sparks, the Cardinals had back-to-back bunt base hits from Tab Tracy and A.J. Taylor which loaded the bases with nobody out.
Braden Benton drew a bases loaded walk and Kummer followed with a two-run single through the left side. The last run of the inning scored when Hector Rodriguez came across on a fielder's choice and ensuing throwing error.
Jarret Williams came on in the fifth inning and finished the game on the mound for his first collegiate win. The freshman southpaw allowed just two hits over the final five innings and struck out four.
Eight of the Cardinals' nine starters had a hit and Kummer finished the day with four RBI to lead the offense. Tracy had two hits and Jake Wagoner started the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning.
