NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers conceded seven runs in the first inning as they were defeated 20-1 by the Lamar Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field. Lamar has come back to take the weekend series after New Orleans won the opener.
A pair of singles set the stage for Lamar and that set forth a seven-run inning which included a two-run double by A.J. Taylor and a three-run homer from Brayden Evans to give the Cardinals a big early advantage.
Taylor added another two RBI to his line when he homered an inning later, which extended the Cardinals lead to 9-0. That was more than enough run support for Lamar starter, Travis Lutz who went six innings with five his and one run allowed.
The lone run scored by New Orleans was in the second inning. Three consecutive singles contributed to the run, the last of which came off the bat of
Josh Hoffmann which scored
Dathan Cummings.
Lamar put themselves into run rule territory when they scored two runs in the fifth to stretch their lead to double digits. An RBI ground out from Beau Durbin was followed by an RBI double from Braden Benton. Lamar capped their scoring with a six-run seventh inning.
The 19-run differential was the largest in series history.
Taylor went 5-for-5 with five RBI to lead the offense. Tab Tracy added three hits and two runs scored. Balin Valentine went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.
INSIDE THE BOX
Dylan Biddick and
Kruise Newman each went 1-for-3 in the loss. Cummings, Hoffmann and
Eli Tidwell also each had a hit.
