NEW ORLEANS –
Luke Lycette threw the first nine-inning complete game by a Privateer pitcher since 2023 and New Orleans kept their conference tournament hopes alive with a 9-2 win over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.
Lycette planted 92 of his 136 pitches for strikes as he became the first Privateer since Brandon Mitchell to record all 27 outs. He also induced 15 ground outs and took a pop up himself in front of the plate to end the game, which moved his record to 5-0 on the season.
The Privateers got out to a quick start with six runs over the first two innings against starter, Matthew Molina. New Orleans loaded the bases with one out and
Eli Tidwell drew a bases loaded walk to get the scoring started.
Adrian Dominguez followed with a sac fly that put the Privateers up 2-0.
New Orleans piled on four more runs in the second inning. After
Jayden Adcox scored on an RBI single,
Kruise Newman blasted a three-run homer that went 433 feet with an exit velocity of 110 miles per hour, which pushed the lead to 6-0.
The only runs given up by Lycette were off the back of two errors in the fifth inning. That set the stage for Jarrett Flaggert who lined a two-run single up the middle to cut the Privateer lead to 6-2.
That was as close as the road side got as the Privateers got a run back in the bottom of the fifth.
Dathan Cummings singled to right and an ensuing error allowed
Adrian Dominguez to score.
New Orleans capped off the scoring when
Miles Curley hit a screaming line drive that just cleared the left field wall for a two-run homer, his seventh of the year which came in the eighth inning.
Lycette compiled eight strikeouts on the night including two in the final inning to help put the finishing touches on his complete game.
The Islanders were limited to five hits, two of which came from Flaggert. Christian Smith-Johnson also had two hits and stole two bases.
