UNO All-Time Scoring Leader McCalebb Leads Team to Italian Super Cup

SIENA, Italy - Former University of New Orleans and O. Perry Walker basketball star Bo McCalebb led Montepaschi Siena to the 2010 Italian Super Cup championship earlier this week, earning 'Most Valuable Player' honors in the championship.

The all-time leading scorer in both UNO and Sun Belt Conference history, McCalebb scored 16 points for Montepaschi Siena in a 82-64 victory over Virtus Bologna. The tournament title is the first for McCalebb with the Italian powerhouse, a team he signed a three-year contract with this past summer.

The Italian SuperCup is a competition that takes place each year between the winners of the Italian Championship and the winners of the Italian Cup. McCalebb joins former NBA players Orlando Woolridge and Tyus Edney as players to be named MVP of the championship game.

The 2010 calendar year has been a busy one for McCalebb, who led his former team, Partizan Belgrade to the prestigious EuroLeague Final Four last May. The New Orleans native was named to the all-EuroLeague second-team for his performance in the top club competition for Europe's elite clubs.

As the summer continued, McCalebb received a Macedonian passport and joined the Macedonia national team, helping qualify the squad for the 2011 European Championship, the country's third appearance in the event. McCalebb was the second leading scorer in the qualifying event behind NBA star Luol Deng.

McCalebb and Montepaschi Siena will open the Serie A League regular season on Sunday against Vanoli CR. The guard's next major competition with Macedonia will come in the 2011 European Championships, held Sept. 3-18, 2011 in Lithuania.

Updates on McCalebb and other Privateer professional athletes at the professional level including Chicago Cub pitcher Thomas Diamond, Romanian league basketball player Kyndall Dykes and VC Tirol (Austria) setter Jaci Bayley can be found regularly on the UNO athletic department's Twitter account.
