Box Score HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Five players scored in double-figures as the University of New Orleans men's basketball team opened their season with a 92-47 victory over Champion Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
Juniors Jonathan Estis and Zach Kinsley had 15 points apiece to pace UNO (1-0), who was playing without lone scholarship returnee Jaroslav Tyrna.
Joining the duo in double figures was Bryce Kemp with 14 points while Antonio Wertz and Ryan Kinsley added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
In addition to his 14 points in the contest, Kemp also matched Lenny Harmon for the team lead in rebounds with eight while dishing out three assists. UNO shot 16 of 16 at the charity stripe with Zach Kinsley leading the way from beyond the arc with 3 of 4 shooting.
The Privateers executed head coach Joe Pasternack's philosophy of solid rebounding and defense against CBU (0-5).
UNO out-rebounded the host Tigers 48-34 while limiting the squad to a 24.6 percent outing from the field.
CBU was led offensively by Jessie Byrd's 13 points and was not able to overcome a 36-16 disadvantage at the half, getting outscored 56-21 in the last 20 minutes of the game.
The Privateers will continue their three-game road trip to start the season on Nov. 18 against Louisiana College at 7 p.m. The game will serve as the season opener for LC, who plays an exhibition against Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 15.
