UNO Rally Falls Short at Birmingham Southern

Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of New Orleans cut an 18-point second half deficit to two points, but could not completely overcome the Birmingham Southern advantage in a 63-59 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Kevin Kegarise scored 16 points and buried four three-pointers as BSC improved to 4-0 after extending a six-point halftime lead into an 18-point lead. Blaise White added 14 points and two three-pointers while Jasen Jonus chipped in another 13 points with three made baskets from long-range.

The Panthers opened the second half by scoring 16 of the first 20 points and a 43-25 lead. UNO (3-2) reeled off a 22-6 run to trim the deficit to two at 49-47, but could not get any closer.

A Tyson Roach three-pointer, the final of his 17 points the contest pulled the Privateers within three points in the game's final seconds before BSC took advantage of their charity stripe opportunities.

Zach Kinsley was second in points for UNO with 15 while ANtonio Wertz had 10 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds. Wertz was matched in the rebound department by Ryan Kinsley and Brandon Canady.

UNO led 10-5 at the onset of the game before eight straight points by Kegarise during a 12-0 BSU run made it 17-10. Jaroslav Tyrna ended the Panthers' run with a pair of free throws as BSC's lead would hold at 27-21 heading into the break.

UNO will return home for two games beginning on Dec. 4 against Pensacola Christian College at 7 p.m. at the Human Performance Center. The Privateers will then take 10 days off before challenging cross-town rival Tulane at the Lakefront Arena on Dec. 14.
