Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. - Southeastern (Fla.) overcame two game-tying shots in the waning seconds of regulation and the first overtime to claim a 87-82 double-overtime victory over the University of New Orleans on Saturday night.
SEU (10-4) nearly pulled out the contest in regulation before UNO (5-4) guard Brandon Knight forced the extra period with a jumper with 1.5 seconds remaining. Zach Kinsley was the Privateer hero in the first overtime with a game-tying three-pointer with eight seconds left to bring about the second overtime.
The Fire prevailed in the second overtime with a Bryce Kemp three-point attempt to tie the game with under 10 seconds to go was off the mark.
UNO was led in defeat by Kinsley's career-high 33 points. The junior was 12 of 20 from the field in 44 minutes of play. Jaroslav Tyrna notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with five blocks while Kemp scored 14 points to round out the double-figure scorers.
Three players topped 17 points for SEU, led by Nate Marshall's 26 points. John Williams scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Jacob Blankenship had 17 points with his nine rebounds.
The Privateers led 39-30 at the half with Tyrna scoring 11 points during the first 20 minutes.
The second half saw the Fire come back from a 10-point deficit at 57-47 with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. SEU took a 64-63 lead with 20 seconds left in the second half, their first advantage since the first 10 minutes of the contest.
The Fire moved ahead 65-63 after a free throw and UNO turnover, setting up Knight's heroics. UNO would need late game heroics against in overtime with Kinsley burying a three-pointer from the right wing to force the second extra period.
Marshall scored eight points over the two overtimes to help SEU pull out the game.
The Privateers will play two in a row at home, beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside the Human Performance Center against Division III foe Huntingdon.
