NEW ORLEANS – With two road games under their belts, the University of New Orleans men's basketball team will turn its focus to its home opener on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Lakefront Arena against Selma (Ala.).

The first of 21 games to be played in the Crescent City this season, Tuesday's contest is the second half of a doubleheader with the Lady Privateers. Both ends of the doubleheader will be streamed on UNOPrivateers.com with the men's game featuring a local broadcast on WGSO 990 AM.

UNO (0-2) will be looking for their first win of the season and continuing to gel as a team under first-year head coach Mark Slessinger along with eight returnees and nine newcomers.

The team struggled to get on a roll offensively in the first two contests of the year, failing to break 26 percent shooting from the field. Despite their struggles in scoring, the Privateers excelled in forcing the turnovers and carry a 4.5 edge in the category after pushing Rice to cough the ball up 25 times on Saturday.

Generra Varmall had ample to do with forcing the turnovers, snatching the ball away from the Owls a school-record nine times and leads UNO in scoring with seven points a game. Varmall narrowly missed a double-double when he added 12 points to his steal count,

Other top scorers on the roster include a pair of fellow newcomers in Lovell Cook and Rarlensee Nelson with 6.5 and 6.0 points a game, respectively. Last year's returning scorer and rebounder Antonio Wertz top this year's unit in rebounds a contest with five an outing.

Selma (1-3) will face UNO for the first time and enters the week coming off their lone victory on the season, a 93-64 decision against Knoxville College on Nov. 5.

Members of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the Bulldogs feature 10 players from Montgomery, Ala. and are led in scoring thus far by freshman Jamie Washington. One of the 10 players from Montgomery, Washington averages 11.5 points per game.

Fellow freshman Adrian Nelson is second in scoring with 9.3 points a contest while pacing the team with 6.3 rebounds a game.

Following Tuesday night's contest, UNO will play their next nine games in New Orleans including a Saturday match-up at Lakefront Arena with Southeastern (Fla.) at 4 p.m. Festivities for the game against SEU include a 'Pre-Game Party' sponsored by the Privateer Athletic Foundation and UNO International Alumni Association to be held in the Spotlights Lounge.

Tickets for this week's contests and the remainder of the season are available by calling (504) 280-GAME, visiting the Lakefront Arena Box Office or TicketMaster.com.
