PENSACOLA, Fla. – A stretch of nearly eight minutes without a field goal in the first half proved to be the difference maker for the University of New Orleans in a 80-65 loss to West Florida at the UWF Field House on Tuesday night.

Entering the night shooting 53.1 percent from the field and ranking amongst the nation's field goal percentage leaders, UWF (13-7) connected on 66 percent of their attempts against UNO (13-9).

The Argos' lofty shooting numbers were boosted by Jamar Moore's 13 of 14 effort that led to a game-high 27 points. Marquis Mathis was 11 of 13 from the field and added 24 for the Argos.

The duo was a combined 9 of 11 from the field in the opening half, which featured a stretch in which the Privateers were held without a field goal during a stretch of 7:38 midway through the period.

An Albert Peterson three-pointer with 13:09 remaining in the opening half provided UNO with a five-point cushion at 19-14. UWF responded with 13 straight points to take a 27-19 lead before Colby Barnes ended the scoreless streak with a jumper at the 5:21 mark.

The momentum remained in the Argos' favor as the hosts' lead grew to 12 points before entering the break with a 38-28 advantage.

In the second half, the shooting remained consistent for UWF, who hit 69.2 percent of their shots after the intermission. The Argos' lead grew to a high of 16 points at 68-52 with 6:31 remaining in the contest before UNO trimmed the deficit to nine points on a Brandon Canady three-pointer with 4:28 left.

The UWF advantage would not drop below double-figures for the remainder of the contest as the Argos closed out the victory.

Lovell Cook and Antonio Wertz led the Privateers with 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Cook added a team-high six rebounds for a UNO squad that also received seven assists without a single turnover from Brandon Knight. Knight has 14 assists without a miscue in his last two games.

The Privateers will now have eight days off from competition before resuming play at The Barn against Xavier on Feb. 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game set to be broadcast on WGSO 990 AM.
