Lady Privateers Preview
In the opening contest, the Lady Privateers will be playing before the home crowd for just the fourth time this season and the first time since Dec. 18. The bulk of the home slate for UNO will get underway when they start a seven-game homestand on Jan. 19 against Southern (N.O.).
In their three home games thus far, the Lady Privateers have seen increased production from
Mechel'le Thomas. Thomas has averaged nine points per game at home compared to her season average of 5.6.
Mirjam Sipos is the top overall scorer with 13.2 points per game, including 13 points an outing at home. The most significant difference for Sipos on the Lakefront is her 36.4 three-point clip compared to 25.9 overall.
Lindenwood is in the midst of a transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and playing a hybrid schedule this year as they make their way under the NCAA umbrella.
The Lions are playing for the first time since a 77-57 victory at Chaminade on Dec. 30, 2011 and like UNO has only played three home games thus far.
Three players top double-figures for Lindenwood led by Morgan Harrington with 13.4 points per game. Sarah Scheniders and Caroline Bourlioux follow with 11.9 and 10.3, respectively.
The Lady Privateers will play their next two games in Mobile, Ala. with dates against Moble (Jan. 10) and Spring Hill (Jan. 16) before returning home for seven contests in a row on the Lakefront.
Privateers Preview
Following the women's game, the Privateer men will seek to snap a four-game losing skid against a CC squad they beat 93-86 in Selma, Ala. on Dec. 16. That victory was the sixth in a seven-game winning streak earlier this season.
UNO has set single-season highs in three-pointers in their last two contests with nine against Christian Brothers (Dec. 31) and 11 against Xavier (Jan. 4). The production over the last 80 minutes has amounted to a 20 of 39 performance from long-range.
Max Banchy has accounted for eight of the shots from beyond the arc on just 14 attempts. Banchy was 5 of 6 in Wednesday's loss to XULA while establishing a career-high with 16 points.
Three others players notched career-best scoring performances against the Gold Rush including
Brandon Knight,
Antonio Holmes and
Colby Barnes. Knight's 14 points allowed him to become the 11
th member on the Privateer roster to score double-figures at least once this season.
Lovell Cook is averaging 13 points per game to lead UNO with
Antonio Wertz at 11.4. Wertz was the top scorer in the previous meeting with the Hornets, putting in 22 points in the game in addition to a team-high 11 rebounds.
No stats are available for a CC squad that has played just one game since meeting the Privateers, a 107-51 setback against Division II Montevallo on Jan. 3. Jeremy Sturdivant scored 19 points to lead the Hornets in the Jan. 3 contest while Travis Rasco added 16.
Rasco was the leading scorer against UNO in the first meeting, scoring 24 points with Zannie Pickens pouring in 20, of which 16 came in the second half.
Following Saturday's contest, the Privateers will close out their four-game homestand on Jan. 11 against Champion Baptist with a 7 p.m. start time.
