NEW ORLEANS –New Orleans scored 20 straight points to open the game and cruised to a 99-51 victory over Blue Mountain on Tuesday night at Lakefront Arena.

UNO (2-2) made 9 of 11 shots from the field to open the game while BMC (2-6) was off the mark on its first six attempts. Trailing 20-0, the Toppers made their first appearance on the scoreboard with a Devante' Pulliam basket with 13:41 remaining until the half.

Corey Blake had a hand in the scoring early for the Privateers, making his first four field goals and scoring 12 of his team-high 16 points in the first half. Five players added six points apiece during the half as UNO hit on 21 of 35 shots for a 60 percent clip in the opening 20 minutes.

The Privateers entered the locker room with a 55-19 advantage on the scoreboard and a 30-15 edge on the glass while holding BMC to 25 percent shooting from the field and just one of 12 from beyond the arc.

In the second half, the Toppers scored the first five points before UNO responded with six straight points of their own. With the momentum back on their side, the Privateers remained in control, building a game-high advantage of 49 with 3:46 left in the game.

Freshmen Kevin Hill and Evans Ganapamo scored matching career-highs with 12 points apiece. Hill is a product of John Ehret with Ganapamo hailing from Mandeville.

Tommy Hobbs rounded out the trio of freshmen in double-figures by notching 10 points. Tuesday's game was the first appearance for the native of Anchorage, Alaska.

As a team, UNO dished out 24 assists in the game led by Rarlensee Nelson's game-high 10. Nelson posted double-figure assists for a second straight game after entering the contest averaging 8.7 assists and ranked second in the NCAA in the category.

BMC was led by Rickey Johnson's 13 points. Two others had six points apiece for the Toppers, which shot 26.2 percent as a squad for the game compared to 51.4 percent for UNO.

The Privateers will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before resuming their 2012-13 schedule on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Thibodaux, La. against future Southland Conference rival Nicholls State.

UNO's 36-point lead at the half (55-19) was just two points shy of the school-record 38 set against Denison on Dec. 28, 1971… All 15 active members of the Privateer roster played in the contest, which featured the debuts of Travis Avery (Algiers, La/Country Day), Tommy Hobbs (Anchorage, Alaska/S. Anchorage), Mitchell Parker (Tallahassee, Fla./North Florida Christian) and John Reese (Leesville, La./Anacoco)… Blue Mountain is the lone NAIA school on the schedule for the Privateers and one of three sub-Division I foes.
