MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Montana athletic department published a feature story on their web site about the University of New Orleans women's basketball program entitled “Finding a family in Missoula” on Thursday.
The story looks back on the UNO women's basketball team journey to Montana during the 2005-06 season.
The Lady Privateers, along with many others across the city of New Orleans were displaced at the time in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Spending the first half of the season in Tyler, Texas – the UNO women's basketball team sought normalcy.
In Missoula for a two-game basketball tournament, the program received a very warm reception from UM athletic director Jim O'Day and countless others. Then-head women's basketball coach and current UNO athletic director Amy Champion reflects back on the ovation they received and the impact the experience has had to this day on her, the staff and student-athletes involved.
