UNO's All-Time Leading Scorer McCalebb Named Italian League MVP

McCalebb Led Team to Italian League Regular Season Championship

SIENA, Italy - University of New Orleans and Sun Belt Conference all-time leading scorer Bo McCalebb was named the 'Most Valuable Player' of the Italian 'Serie A' basketball league on Thursday.

McCalebb received 97 points to beat out Montepaschi Siena teammate David Andersen for the honor. Andersen, a former member of the New Orleans Hornets, received 60 points.

The MVP nod continues a string of accolades for McCalebb, who was awarded the 2012 Alphonso Ford Top Scorer award in April after leading the EuroLeague in scoring. The guard was also selected as the Fan's Choice for 2011 FIBA European Player of the Year while finishing third overall behind Dallas Mavericks' star Dirk Nowitzki.

A product of O. Perry Walker before arriving at UNO, McCalebb led Montepaschi to a league-best 24-8 record and its sixth straight 'Serie A' regular season championship.  The guard averaged 13.9 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 31 appearances while shooting 63 percent from the field.

With the regular season title, Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup titles already in hand, McCalebb will look to help Montepaschi complete the clean sweep of possible domestic league championships.

The squad will begin quarterfinal play against Cimberio VA on May 17th.

Following the completion of the Italian playoffs, McCalebb will turn his focus to duties with the Macedonian national team and a July appearance in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The New Orleans native was granted dual citizenship two years ago and led Macedonia to a fourth place finish in the 2011 FIBA European Championships.
