NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's basketball team will travel to Baton Rouge on Tuesday to renew a familiar regional rivalry with the LSU Tigers. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, with Cox Sports Television broadcasting the game.
The Privateers (1-0) are coming off an impressive 81-45 victory over Millsaps to start the 2013-14 campaign. In the victory, New Orleans had two players in double figures and senior
Cory Dixon led the charge with 18 points and 12 rebounds for his first career double-double as a Privateer. Dixon also had career best 3 blocks in the win.
True freshman
Nate Frye impressed in his debut, as he was the only other Privateer in double figures with 11 points off the bench. Frye's first points as a Privateer came from behind the arc, draining a three-ball from the top of the key; he went on to finish 2-of-3 from downtown. Also standing out in his debut was junior
Terrance Syon, who had 11 rebounds to go along with 7 points. Of Syon's 11 rebounds, 5 came off the offensive glass as the Privateers had 21 friendly-fire rebounds as a team.
A total of 15 players logged game minutes against Millsaps with 13 registering points, in addition to shooting 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the floor for the game and forcing 31 turnovers. New Orleans scored 38 points off of Millsaps miscues that aided the cause.
LSU (1-1) is coming off of hosting fellow Southland Conference member Northwestern State and it was the Tigers prevailing 88-74 on Saturday. The Tigers opened the season with a 92-90 loss at UMass before earning their first win against the Demons.
The Tigers game against New Orleans is the middle of a three-game home game stand with all three contests coming against Southland Conference opponents. After Tuesday's game, LSU will host Southeastern La. on Friday, November 22 before taking to the road.
Following Tuesday's contest, the Privateers will host Boise State in the Lakefront Arena on Saturday, November 23 at 11 a.m. with Cox Sports Television carrying the game live.
