Privateers Steer Ship for Hawaii

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's basketball team will head west to take on the University of Hawaii on Wednesday night.  Tip-off will be at 11 p.m. CT at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

The Privateers (1-2) are coming off of a 100-80 loss to Boise State, whom is the only NCAA tournament team from last season to return all five starters.  In the game, senior forward Cory Dixon posted his second double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds.  Dixon also had four blocks and three assists and a steal in the game.

So far for the 2013-14 season, Dixon has had at least 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in every game.  Following Dixon is junior Matt Derenbecker with a 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game average, as he is the only other Privateer averaging above 10 points and seven rebounds per game.

The Warriors (3-2) are fresh off of a 114-63 win over Hawaii-Hilo, bouncing back from a 92-80 loss at Missouri.  Hawaii's only game away from the island was its loss to Missouri, and the game against New Orleans is the first of a two-game home stand.

Leading the Warriors is Christian Standhardinger with an 18.0 points per average, coupled with a 54.8 percent mark from field goal range.  Standhardinger is one of four Warriors averaging double digits, with Quincy Smith on the cusp of joining the club with a 9.0 points per contest average.  As a team, Hawaii is averaging 89.0 points per game.

The all-time series between the two schools is in favor of Hawaii, 4-1, with the Warriors taking the last match up, 82-58 in the 2011-12 season.  The only win for New Orleans in the series came in the 1987-88 season with the Privateers leaving Honolulu with an 82-66 victory.
