NEW ORLEANS – Playing in the Human Performance Center for the first and only time this season, New Orleans pulled away from Central Baptist midway through the first half for a 100-59 victory on Monday night.
With UNO (8-14) leading 19-16 with 10:48 remaining in the opening half, the Privateers needed less than three minutes to score 14 unanswered points.
CBC (7-23) had six of their 18 first half turnovers during the UNO spurt which left the hosts with 33-16 advantage with 7:50 before the half. The Privateers grew their edge to 20 points for the first time on a pair of
Isaac Mack free throws with 5:17 remaining in the first half.
UNO's lead would not dip below 13 points heading into the break as the Privateers carried a 51-32 halftime advantage.
In the second half, it was more of the same. UNO shot 21 of 41 from the field during the final 20 minutes and built a game-high 43-point lead with 3:56 left in the contest.
Lovell Cook led five Privateers in double-figures with 22 points.
Cory Dixon was second on the squad with 14 points while the duo of
Eddie Denard and
Rarlensee Nelson had 11 points apiece.
Kevin Hill rounded out the quartet with 10 points.
In addition to the point production, Nelson nearly became the third player in school history to record a triple-double. The guard had 11 assists and eight rebounds, along with five steals in 29 minutes.
CBC was led in defeat by Blake Hanney, who scored 17 points. Michael Stevenson and Carl Corman had 16 and 12 points, respectively. The Mustangs shot 31.1 percent for the game.
The Privateers will play their final four games on the road beginning with Bowling Green on Thursday at 6 p.m. Remaining road games include NJIT, Houston Baptist and Texas-Pan American.

With his 11 assists in the game,
Rarlensee Nelson has 155 assists for his career. Nelson entered the game ranked No. 8 in single-season assists and will now head to Bowling Green ranked sixth in school history. Nelson passed former teammate
Brandon Knight, who totaled 150 assists in 2011-12. The school-record for assists in a season is 178 by Jimmie Smith in 1994-95.
By reaching double-figure assists for the sixth time this season and seventh time in his career, Nelson is one game shy of a pair of Jordan Crump records. Nelson is one shy of Crump's school-record seven double-figure assist games in a season and eight for a career.
The win was the sixth straight for the UNO men's basketball team when playing at the Human Performance Center, more affectionately known as the “Chamber of Horrors”. The streak began with a 65-60 victory over Denver in the first round of the 2008 Sun Belt Conference tournament.
Prior to the contest, UNO added guard
Joseph Hebert to the roster. Hebert is a product of John Ehret and attended Dawson Community College.
All 15 active players on the Privateer roster played, including Hebert, who played in the contest's final three minutes.
