Privateers Jump Back Into Action Against TCU

UNO Game Notes | TCU Game Notes

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's basketball team (1-0) jumps right back on the court two days after the season opener in a road test against the TCU Horned Frogs (2-0) on Thursday at Wilkerson-Greines Center. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.

The Privateers wrapped up a season-opening win less than 24 hours ago against Pensacola Christian. New Orleans forced 27 turnovers and shot 52 percent in the 88-61 triumph over the Eagles while sporting five players who had double figures in points. Kevin Brown led all scorers with 18 points in his Privateers debut.

Also coming out strong in his first collegiate game with New Orleans was freshman, Colton Weisbrod who scored 12 points, went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, and pulled down six rebounds in 17 minutes. Weisbrod also had two of the Privateers' 13 steals in the season opener.

The win on Tuesday moved Head Coach Mark Slessinger to 4-0 in home openers. Slessinger has defeated Selma (Ala.), San Jose State, and Millsaps in his previous three home debuts and now has a 28-10 mark as head coach at home.

New Orleans will meet TCU for the second time in school history. The two schools tangled in 1998 with the Horned Frogs taking a 74-61 victory. It will also be the first meeting for the Privateers against a Big 12 school since New Orleans defeated former conference member, Colorado in Dec. 2007.

The Horned Frogs, coached by Trent Johnson, own wins over Prairie View A&M and Washington State. TCU is in the midst of a five-game home stand to start the year and will play 11 of their first 14 games at home. TCU was 5-10 at home last season and 9-22 overall.

Kyan Anderson, the team's leading scorer from last season has put in 28 points in his first two games and led the Horned Frogs with 16 in the win over Washington State. Anderson averaged 17.0 points per game last year. Karviar Shepherd, another of TCU's returners from last season, has pulled down 19 rebounds in the first two contests.
