UNO Game NotesNEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's basketball team (1-1) hits the road for a Thanksgiving weekend two-game swing starting against the Texas A&M Aggies (3-1) at Reed Arena on Friday. Tip is slated for 12 p.m. on SEC Network.
The Privateers will play the first game in eight days after falling 86-71 at TCU on Nov. 20. New Orleans kept the game close early, but could not overcome the hot shooting of the Horned Frogs who went 19-for-28 from the field in the first half.
Terrance Syon has put up double figures in each of the first two games for New Orleans. After opening with 10 points against Pensacola Christian, Syon reached another career high by pouring in 15 points while adding nine rebounds against TCU. Syon also played a career-high 36 minutes last Thursday, eclipsing his previous high (34 minutes).
Kevin Brown got off to a hot start in the first week as well for the Privateers. In two games, Brown posted 39 points on 50 percent shooting (10-for-20) from the field. Brown also visited the free throw line 18 times over the first two games and shot 6-of-13 from three-point range.
New Orleans will be facing the Aggies for the third time in program history. The Privateers won both prior meetings including the most recent, a 79-73 overtime victory in the opening round of the 1994 NIT. The Privateers also took a 72-55 decision against Texas A&M at the Lakefront in Dec. 1992.
The Aggies, coached by Billy Kennedy, have gotten off to a 3-1 start and are fresh off a 2-1 showing in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. After losing the first game of the weekend to Dayton, the Aggies rebounded for victories against College of Charleston and New Mexico. Friday marks the second of three Southland opponents the Aggies have on their schedule. Texas A&M defeated Northwestern State in the season opener and will face Sam Houston State on Dec. 3.
Danuel House made his season debut and helped spark a second half Aggies rally against New Mexico. House went for 17 points in 29 minutes as Texas A&M overcame a halftime deficit to outscore the Lobos 38-20 in the second half on the way to a 13-point victory. Other stand-outs include Jalen Jones who is averaging 12.3 points per game and Alex Caruso, who has 30 assists in the first four contests.
