London Lions Release on Cook Signing
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Former New Orleans Privateers standout forward, Lovell Cook has found a new home to continue his basketball career after signing with the London Lions of the British Basketball League this week.
Coach Slessinger was very pleased to see Cook's basketball career continue saying, "It is with great joy that I get an opportunity to see Lovell continue his basketball journey. He is a student-athlete who we saw commit to his craft and invest in developing his skill set. The progress he made during his career here at UNO was tremendous and I couldn't be happier for him."
Cook led the Privateers in scoring in his two seasons at New Orleans which spanned from 2011-13. Cook shot 52.3 percent (331-633) from the field in his career and averaged 14.1 points per game. Cook appeared in all 58 games for the Privateers, and started 57 of those contests.
A New Orleans native, Cook began his high school career at Warren Easton, but transferred to South Cobb in Georgia after evacuating for Hurricane Katrina. Cook was named third team all-Louisiana in his junior season with the Privateers.
At age 23, this will be the first professional stop in Cook's career. He will join a Lions squad that was 16-17 in the 2013-14 season. The Lions' opener will be on Sept. 26 when they travel to face Surrey United.
