NEW ORLEANS, La. – Former New Orleans men's basketball standout Bo McCalebb was welcomed back to the Lakefront Arena with open arms on Tuesday afternoon as the Privateer's all-time leading scorer helped unveil the team's refurbished practice facility floor.

The new surface, which has been in the planning phase for some time, was completed this summer thanks in part to a gift made to the university by McCalebb.

"I am extremely humbled by Bo's gift back to the university and student-athletes," said head men's basketball coach Mark Slessinger. "He is one of the incredible success stories of not only our University but our city and state. He has always been a quiet force in the growth of UNO Basketball as a player and he continues that selfless example with this gift."

"What a great day for our basketball programs. I have been waiting on this day for 18 years," said head women's basketball coach Keeshawn Davenport. "Our practice facility has received a major facelift and it wouldn't be possible without the generous act of Bo McCalebb. We are very blessed and grateful to have an alumnus like Bo who gives back to the university that gave so much to him."

Following a brief press conference in front of media members and supporters, current New Orleans seniors Travis Avery, Kevin Hill and Danielle Davis broke in the new floor with the first layups made in the updated facility.

The floor, which is located inside the Lakefront Arena, features new Privateer wordmarks and logos as well as new functional training marks to help with player fundamentals.

McCalebb was a five-year member of the New Orleans men's basketball team, playing from 2003-08, where he still holds the university and Sunbelt Conference all-time scoring mark.

Since his time with the Privateers, the New Orleans native is in the midst of a successful professional career in Europe, playing most recently for Bayern in Munich, Germany.
