NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's basketball team will look to right the ship and get fat off some home cooking when the Privateers square off against Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas on Monday, Jan. 25, in Lakefront Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The game against the Bears is the first of a three-game homestand for UNO as the team will host McNeese State on Saturday, Jan. 30, before playing Nicholls on Monday, Feb. 1. The Privateers will need the home court to be a true advantage as New Orleans is looking to snap a five-game skid, but head coach
Mark Slessinger was quick to point out that the outcome of the final 12 regular-season games lays squarely on the shoulders of his players and staff.
"Nobody feels sorry for us," Slessinger said. "We've got to get our butt back in there, get working and get this thing turned around. We've got 12 more [games] to go and we've got to get ready to make a march into the [Southland] tournament and achieve or goal of making the NCAA Tournament. There's no time to feel sorry for ourselves.
"The [players are] disappointed and our staff is disappointed. This is not what we wanted. This is not where we feel this team should be. We should have turned two or three of those games around in there. We should be 3-3 at this point and we're very disappointed in where we're at. We've got a short turnaround to say the least [after playing at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday night]. UCA was at Nicholls [on Saturday] and they'll be ready for us on Monday night. We'll be anxious for that game."
New Orleans enters Monday's matchup 5-12 on the year and 1-5 in Southland Conference action. Three of the team's losses during the current five-game losing streak came by a combined 10 points while UNO dropped its last two outings against Stephen F.
