Baseball Falls In Rubber Match 10-0 Against Central Arkansas

Privateers held to five hits in loss

– The University of New Orleans baseball team wrapped up its Southland Conference series  against the University of Central Arkansas on Sunday afternoon, losing to the host 10-0.

New Orleans (14-11, 4-5 Southland Conference) created an early opportunity to take the lead in the second inning, trailing 1-0 at that point, with singles from junior infielder Owen Magee and junior outfielder Tristan Clarke plus a walk from junior outfielder Jay Robinson to load the bases with two outs, but could not get on the scoreboard.

Central Arkansas (12-14, 3-6 Southland Conference) took control of the contest in the fifth inning, scoring eight runs in the frame to take a 9-0 lead, adding a 10th run in the sixth to end the scoring. 

Magee paced the Privateers' offense with two hits, with senior infielder Dakota Dean, junior catcher John Cable and Clarke all contributing one hit.

On the mound for UNO, junior right handed pitcher Rafael Martinez got the start and went 4.1 innings with four runs allowed off eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Junior left handed pitcher Matthew Gillis, junior right handed pitcher William Griffin and senior right handed pitcher Riley Hodge all made appearances.

For UCA, Mark Moyer threw a complete game shutout, allowing five hits while striking out four batters and walking one Privateer. Hunter Strong boasted a game-high three hits with two RBI and a pair of doubles, while Keaton Presley and Brooks Balisterri both posted two hits with two RBI.

The Privateers' six-game road swing concludes on Wednesday, Mar. 28 at Southern Miss with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. New Orleans is back at Maestri Field on Friday, Mar. 31 when UNO hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30 to start a Southland Conference series.
