ABOUT THE JAGUARS
Already in double digit games in the season by the time the ball is tipped Saturday, Governors State plays Dillard Friday afternoon. The Jaguars are led by head coach and athletic director Tony Bates, who is in his fourth season in University Park.
Bates was the 2018 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Jaguars to the CCAC regular season and tournament titles. His 2017-18 squad finished 25-9, advancing to the NAIA Tournament and finishing ranked 14th in the NAIA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Bates guided the Jaguars to a school-record 11-game winning streak and to 12 consecutive wins on its home court. Gone is the CCAC Player of the Year Jalen Miller.
The 25 wins were more than the previous two years combined (11 in 2016-17 and eight in 2015-16).
2018-19 is the third season in the CCAC for the Jaguars.
Four players are averaging double figures, including Robbie Brooks, who is scoring 20.9 points per game.
Governors State is 1-3 away from the ARC.
