NEW ORLEANS – Collin Morrill,
Owen Magee and
Kenneth Yetter homered in the University of New Orleans' (9-14, 2-6 Southland) 16-7 setback against Central Arkansas (14-9, 6-2 Southland) Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.
Collin Morrill went 2-for-3 with two RBI – the two-run long ball – for his first home run of the season. Magee hit a solo shot in the seventh and Yetter went yard in the ninth for his first collegiate HR.
Will Brand earned his first win of the season after going 4.2 innings in relief.
John Michael Stephens (1-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs in 1.1 innings.
Darren Willis, Orynn Veillon,
Pearce Howard and C. Morrill recorded two-hit performances and five other hitters finished with a base knock.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first and second, and one more in the third. UNO made it a 5-2 ballgame in the third after
Beau Bratton's triple plated Howard and later scored on a balk.
The teams traded runs in the fourth with UCA scoring three and UNO putting two on
Collin Morrill's laser past the left field wall, cutting the Bears lead to 8-4.
Central Arkansas added three more in the sixth and one in the seventh and the Privateers put one on the board on Magee's long ball in the seventh and an error in the eighth.
Somdecerff's grand slam in the ninth extended the Central Arkansas to 10. Yetter blasted his first collegiate home run in the ninth but UCA clinched the series with a 16-7 victory.
WHAT'S NEXT
New Orleans finishes up its series with Central Arkansas tomorrow at 1 p.m. Fans will receive a $5 general admission ticket when they show their Hogs for the Cause wristband at the ticket window.
