AUSTIN, Texas – Scott Crabtree put together a good day at the dish, and
Brayson Smith settled in after giving up two early runs, but the University of New Orleans (17-24) fell 3-1 to the University of Texas (28-14) Saturday evening at Dish-Falk Field.
Smith (1-3) gave the Privateers a chance to get back in the game, but was tagged with the loss after 5.1 innings of work giving up two runs on two hits and striking out five. UT starter Chase Shugart (4-2) earned the win after going 7.2 innings giving up a run on eight hits with 5 punchouts. Bryce Elder (2) was credited with the save after 1.1 scoreless innings of work.
Owen Magee,
Pearce Howard, and
Scott Crabtree tallied a pair of hits in the setback.
Beau Bratton pushed his hitting streak to 11 games after a 1-4 showing at the plate.
Jared McKay,
Jay Robinson, and
Darren Willis added hits of their own.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Longhorns jumped out to and early 2-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the first frame.
But UNO battled back with a run in the fourth after three consecutive base knocks by Howard, Magee, and Bratton, Veillon drove in Howard on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
The Horns added run in the eight to push the lead to 3-1 and took game to clinch the series.
