NEW ORLEANS TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS HEAD TO BIRMINGHAM FOR KMS INVITATIONAL

Birmingham, Alabama-  The University of New Orleans track and field teams return from a two-week break in competition, Sunday, Jan.27 at the KMS Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena.

The Privateers will return to the scene of their first indoor meet of the season back on Jan. 11, the Blazer Invitational.

"I'm just excited to see where we are in this second competition," says head track and field coach Brian Johnson.  "We are getting better as an overall team and we're starting to understand we have work to do but we are moving in the right direction."

With two weeks of training under their belts, Johnson is looking for good performances this week from the likes of senior distance runner Aaron Albert who has been out of competition for nearly a year.  From Los Alomitos, California, Albert will run the mile this week after running a personal best at 3,000 meters at the Blazer Invite two weeks ago.

JaNai Cameron pr'd in the 60 meters at 7.86 seconds smashing her previous best was 7.99.  Hurdler Harrison Coleman, a sophomore, will get work by running in the 400 meter run.

Freshman thrower Vojislav Gvero ranks 4th in the Southland Conference in the weight throw at 52' 8.75".  Aaron Worrell is 5th in the SLC in the high jump at 6' 4.75" and Michael Strong, school record holder in the long jump sits at 8th in the SLC in that event at 23'.

"I just want to see progression," says Johnson.  "I'm excited to see where we are because the cooler weather hindered us a little bit. But slowly we are getting there in preparation for the big dance at the end of the month."

The Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled for Feb. 24-25 in Birmingham, Alabama.
