NEW ORLEANS - University of New Orleans Track and Field Head Coach
Clayton O'Callaghan is excited to announce Philip Redrick as his new Associate Head Coach in charge of sprints/jumps.
Â
"I am very excited to welcome Philip and his family to UNO. Philip's energy is unmatched, and he has achieved some of the highest accomplishments one can attain both as an athlete and as a coach. His values and expectations of himself and his student-athletes align with how I envision this program growing. He is an excellent identifier of talent, and I do not doubt that he will continue to raise the standards of our program."
Â
Redrick joins the Privateers after spending last season as the Head Women's Track and Field Coach at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas. Prior to his time at Pratt was the head coach at Fort Scott Community College from 2020-2024. Under his leadership Fort Scott became one of the top junior college track programs in the country and had the No. 1 rated junior college sprints program in back-to-back years.
Â
Between the two stops Redrick produced nine conference championships, one regional championship, 125 All-Americans, and had 98 of his student-athletes eventually transfer to Div. I programs. He was named NJCAA Central Region Coach of the Year on three separate occasions and led the Grey Hounds 4x400 meter relay team to a NJCAA national championship.Â
Â
Redrick was a three-time NJCAA All-American during his days as a student-athlete at Neosho community college. Philip still holds the Panther records for 55-meter dash (6.30), 60-meter dash (6.80) - both set in 2008, as well as the 100-meter dash (10.23) and 200-meter dash (20.04) both set in 2009.Â
Â
Redrick's efforts at Neosho earned him a full scholarship offer from the University of Washington before eventually enrolling at Texas Southern in 2010. During his three years in Houston, the five-time SWAC Champion earned the moniker "The fastest man in Texas Southern History" after setting eight school records and breaking the SWAC records in the 60-meter dash, 100-meter dash, and 200-meter dash.
Â
He became the first sprinter at Texas Southern since 1982 to run at an NCAA Championship when he finished No. 24 in the 100-meter-dash in 2011. At various points during his time at Texas Southern he ranked as high as the No. 12 in the world at 200 meters, and No. 28 at 100 meters. Redrick won SWAC championships at 60 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters in 2011 - repeating his SWAC championship wins at 60 meters, and 100 meters from 2010. He finished his collegiate career with 22 races won at the NCAA Div. I level.Â
Â
Redrick continued to run professional after graduation and has competed at the highest levels including: both the United States Track and Field Outdoor (2011) and Indoor Championships (2012 and 2013), as well as the 2012 Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon.
Â
His personal bests are 10.09 in the 100, and 20.04 in the 200. Outside of running, Redrick competed on the show "The Next Olympic Hopeful" for a chance to join the American Bobsled team in 2018 and was chosen as an alternate on the four-man team.
Â
"I'm excited to be here and a part of the University of New and Orleans Track a Field program. My goal is to turn the sprint program into one of the best in the nation. Coaching Div. I has always been a dream of mine, and now I have the opportunity to prove the people who believed in me right. I'm ready to get to work and help build something special here at UNO" said Redrick.
Â
Redrick earned his undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism from Texas Southern in 2013. He can be found on both X and Instagram at @KingRedrick.Â
