NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Athletics begins week nine of the fall season with the final Coaches Caravan before the start of the men's and women's basketball seasons.
EVENTS
Drago's in Metairie is the host of the third Coaches Caravan Tuesday, October 29 at 6 p.m. Ro Brown will moderate a discussion with coaches Jeff Lorio, Blake Dean, Mark Slessinger and Burzis Kanga, and director of athletics Tim Duncan.
As the #NewOrleansTop50 continues with men's hoops, the basketball programs host a season ticket event Wednesday.
Prior to the volleyball contest Thursday, the Privateers will host Trunk or Treat in the parking lot of the Human Performance Center at 5 p.m.
The Third Annual Privateer Golf Classic is set for Friday, November 1 at English Turn Golf & Country Club. For more information, including purchasing raffle tickets, please visit https://www.unoalumni.com/golf.
The Privateers will visit Toyota of New Orleans Saturday between noon-2 p.m. Catch the basketball coaches and student-athletes as the season begins next week.
BASEBALL
New Orleans hosts Bossier Parish Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free to Maestri Field.
VOLLEYBALL
The New Orleans Privateers (11-13, 4-6) have two matches this week. New Orleans will make the trip to Hammond to take on Southeastern on Tuesday at 7 p.m. A home match against Northwestern State follows on Halloween (Thursday at 6:30 p.m.).
TRUNK OR TREAT
- Preceding the home match against Northwestern State, the Privateers will be holding a Trunk or Treat event in the Human Performance Center Parking Lot from 5-6:15 p.m. For more information and to register, go to unoprivateers.com/Halloween.
NOTES
- The Privateers are currently in a three-way tie for seventh in the conference standings with six matches remaining. New Orleans is knotted with Nicholls and Central Arkansas.
- Ehize Omoghibo had 19 kills on Saturday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. That total was two short of tying her career high, achieved earlier this season against Charleston.
- Andrea Nava moved into eighth place on the all-time digs list and is poised to climb further up the charts this week. Nava is 14 digs away from passing Javonne Brooks for seventh place.
- When New Orleans returns home, they'll be returning to a spot where they've won eight of their 12 matches this season.
CROSS COUNTRY
New Orleans heads to Conway for the 2019 Southland Conference Championships Friday, November 1. The women's 6K begins at 8:15 a.m. and the men's 8K race starts at 9:15 a.m.
Since the program restarted in 2011 and joined the Southland in 2013, the men have yet to finish higher than 11th while the women have not placed higher than 12th. Both teams set program bests for lowest point totals a season ago at the meet as the men recorded 290 and the women registered 340.
