Mason Appleton wrapped up his collegiate cross-country career with a 105th-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday morning.
Appleton's time of 33:02.0 is the 18th-fastest men's 10K mark in program history. He got off to a strong start, sitting in the top 40 after the first split, and finished well, passing 15 runners over the final 1.5K.
Appleton wraps up his career with three NCAA South Central Regional appearances — 2022, 2024 and 2025. He set new personal bests this season at 5K (15:04.1 at the Battle for New Orleans) and 8K (24:00.4 at the Southland Championships). The senior also won a 7K race at the Azalea City Classic in October.
Mason's cross country career includes: the eighth-fastest 10K in program history — a 32:12.1 at last season's NCAA South Central Regional — a time that ranks sixth on UNO's all-time performance list. His 5K time from this season's Battle for New Orleans ranks No. 3 on both the fastest-times list and the all-time performance list as well.
