NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans senior distance runner
Mason Appleton will compete in the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday morning at Argi Park in Fayetteville, Ark.
Appleton finished his senior season with an 8K personal best time of 24:00 at the Southland Championships two weeks ago. He also set a 5K personal best of 15:04.1 to open the season at the Battle for New Orleans, and took home first place at the 7,000 meter Azalea City Classic on Oct. 3
Mason has run in two previous South Central regionals. He finished 97th in 2022 with a time of 33:48.0 as a freshman, and 95th last season with a time of 32:12.0 as junior. He did not run at the 2023 regional, which took place at Argi Park.
The UNO school record at both 10K and at a South Central Regional is 30:53.3 set by Kolyn Saltzman in 2022. Appleton's time last season ranks No. 8 all-time, and No. 6 on UNO's all-time 10K performance list.
