NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans Cross Country runners set 10 personal bests at the Southland Conference Championships on Friday morning in Natchitoches.
The New Orleans women kicked off the day of personal improvement with new personal bests from a trio of freshmen.
Alexa Daverio's time of 23:35.6 was an eight second improvement on her time at the Arturo Barrios Invitational two weeks ago.
Daira Rojas Vasquez finished in 23:55.1 this morning – half of a second faster than her time at the Arturo Barrios.
Candilynn Vega knocked 15 seconds off her time at the Arturo Barrios after finishing in 25:01.1.
Anais Sulpice led the UNO women with a time of 22:14.8 – good for a 21
st place finish.
Petra Imre finished in 22:23.3 – her 27
th place finish was three spots better than last season.
Michela Papalia finished in 22:45.3 – her 32
nd place finish was four spots better than last season.
The New Orleans women finished sixth overall with 185 points – two points ahead of HCU. They also finished ahead of Lamar, Nicholls, East Texas A&M, Southeastern and Northwestern State. Stephen F Austin won the women's championship with 36 points, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Elizabeth Khatevia won the individual championship for the second year in a row with a time of 19:44.4.
On the men's side the top seven Privateer finishers all set personal bests at Walter Ledet Track Complex.
Mason Appleton paced the Privateer men with a 19
th place finish in 24:00. Appleton's time on Friday was 42 seconds faster than his pervious personal best at 8K set at last season's Arturo Barrios Invitational. Junior
Antonio Delgado finished in 25:20.7 – a 45 second improvement on his personal best also set at last season's Arturo Barrios.
Freshmen Laden Juneau (25:21.7),
Brandt Blanchard (25:25.5), Benjamin Stumm (25:55.40),
Henry Livingston (26:52.4) and
Chey Bridges (27:28.7) all improved on their times set at this season's Arturo Barrios on Friday morning by over a minute each – Juneau clocking at a minute and a half faster than his previous personal best.
The New Orleans men finished ninth overall with 221 points. Stephen F. Austin took home the team championship with 20 points, and Lumberjack Nathan Kapel was the men's champion with a time of 22:54.8.
