This Week in New Orleans Athletics – Week 12

NEW ORLEANS – The 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana and Arina Kleshchukova will represent New Orleans. Volleyball will head to Conway, Arkansas for the 2019 Southland Tournament as the No. 8 seed, women's basketball hosts Louisiana Thursday at 7 p.m., and men's hoops visits Hawaii for a weekend bout – Sunday at 9 p.m. CT.
 
CROSS COUNTRY
For the first time in school history, the New Orleans Privateers will be represented at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships as Kleshchukova punched her ticket to Terre Haute after earning an automatic bid with a fourth-place finish as an individual at the South Central Regional. The Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan native crossed the line in 10th overall with a personal best of 21:00.2, the second fastest 6K mark in school history.
 
Kleshchukova will take on the nation on Saturday, Nov. 23. The women's 6K championship race will get underway at 10:15 a.m. CT. Fans are able to watch the race live on Flotrack.com.
 
VOLLEYBALL
After qualifying on Saturday, the New Orleans Privateers will head to Conway for their first Southland tournament appearance in four years. The Privateers' opening round match will be against top seed and regular season champion, Stephen F. Austin at 4 p.m. on Friday.
 
NOTES
- The Privateers had four in double digits in kills and digs during a 3-1 victory over HBU. With the win, the Privateers finished with a 9-6 home record.
- Andrea Nava moved up another spot to third on the all-time digs list after her 15-dig performance Saturday. Nava vaulted from 14th at the start of the year to third and has 1,329 career digs.
- Lucie Pokorna finished the season tops in the Southland in assists per set. The freshman finished with 990 total assists (9.43 per set).
- The Lady Jacks finished the regular season with a 28-1 record. They went undefeated in conference and lost a total of five sets against Southland schools.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Following its upset of Ole Miss, the New Orleans women's basketball team will host Sun Belt foe Louisiana on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at Lakefront Arena. The contest will feature a #NOLAsTEAM Night promo which includes $5 tickets at the door for any fan with a Greater New Orleans area ID. Thursday also features a turkey giveaway and a special student giveaway that includes a galley meal plan courtesy of Chartwells.
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Privateers close out the four-game road trip in beautiful Hawaii for a Sunday bout at 9 p.m. CT. New Orleans (1-3) last visited Honolulu in 2013. The Privateers are 1-5 versus the Rainbow Warriors. Troy Green scored a career-high 20 points Tuesday at SMU and followed with 14 points at #RV Mississippi State.
