This Week in New Orleans Athletics – Week 20

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans men's basketball heads to Houston for a midweek tilt (Wednesday at 7 p.m.) prior to returning to Lakefront Arena for a doubleheader with the women's team versus McNeese Saturday (women begin at 4 p.m. at Lakefront Arena). Men's and women's tennis begin their spring campaigns under head coach Burzis Kanga this weekend.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Privateers (5-11, 1-5 Southland) split last week with a home victory vs. Central Arkansas and three-point setback at UIW. Bryson Robinson has reached double figures in every game this season and is less than 100 points away from 1,000 in his historic career. Gerrale Gates is coming off his second double-double of 2019-20 (13 points, 13 rebounds).

HBU is 1-12 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Huskies are averaging 80.6 points per game, led by Ian DuBose's 19.5 points and Jalon Gates' 16.5/game.

McNeese (7-9, 2-3 Southland) won its last two conference games. The Cowboys are averaging 81.9 points per game and shooting 51.4 percent from the floor. Three student-athletes are posting 10+ a game, led by A.J. Lawson's 16.6 and Sha'Markus Kennedy's 16.3.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Women's Basketball program has been on fire in recent weeks as the Privateers have won their past five contests, including a run of four straight in Southland Conference play.

The group will have a bye on Wednesday but will return home to the Lakefront Arena on Saturday, Jan. 18 for Academic Honors Night. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball program and will start the day of events on the Lakefront with a 4 p.m. tip.

With its recent run, New Orleans has moved into a tie for fourth in the conference with a mark of 8-7 overall and 4-2 in Southland play.

TRACK & FIELD
The Privateers will build off their opening meet, this past Friday's LSU Purple Tiger Invitational, and will be off from competition for two weeks before returning with the McNeese Indoor Invite on Friday, Jan. 31.

MEN'S TENNIS
The Privateers men's tennis team kicks off their spring 2020 schedule with a visit to Baton Rouge for a neutral site opponent. New Orleans will take on the VCU Rams on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m.
