Track & Field Adds Meet, Set To Compete at UAB Green and Gold Invite this Weekend

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans track & field program added an additional indoor meet to its schedule as the men's and women's teams are set to compete at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Green and Gold Invitational this Friday, Jan. 24 through Saturday, Jan. 25. at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The opening day of the meet will feature some prelims of the shorter sprint events along with the finals of the 300, 800, 600, mile, 3000 and DMR to go with the men's and women's weight throws, the men's and women's triple jumps and the men's high jump on Friday. The field portion of the schedule gets the day underway at 3 PM CST while athletes will begin to take to the track at 4 PM.

Saturday's finale will include the rest of the track schedule (60, 60-hurdles, 200, 400, mile, 3000, 5000 and 4x400) to go with the men's and women's pole vault, men's and women's shot put, men's and women's long jump and the women's high jump events. Both the track and field portions of the meet will get underway on 10 AM CST on Saturday.

It is the second meet of the season for the new look track & field program after the Privateers competed at LSU's Purple Tiger Invitational back on Friday, Jan. 10. 

Danielle Lorenz was honored with the first Southland Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week Award of the season after the season-opening meet while Aaron Worrell (Men's Field Athlete of the Week), Harrison Coleman (Men's Track Athlete of the Week) and Shamarah Shannon (Women's Track Athlete of the Week) were all chosen as honorable mentions for their respective awards.
