Eight Privateer Pitchers Combine for Three-Hit Shutout in Win Over Alcorn

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (8-5) used eight different pitchers and scored six runs in the first two innings of an 11-0 victory over the Alcorn State Braves (2-7) on Tuesday night at Maestri Field.

The win was the second shutout by the Privateers this season and the first time Alcorn State had been shut out since Apr. 15, 2018.

WIN-LOSS
Cristian Poche, who made his first collegiate start, picked up the win for his first decision of the season. The loss went to George Osborne (0-2).

FAST START
It didn't take long for the Privateers to get on the board. A leadoff walk and an ensuing double put two runners in scoring position. An RBI groundout by Pearce Howard got the first run across and Beau Bratton followed with the first of two hits on a run scoring single.

New Orleans added four more in the second as Osborne issued six walks which provided the opportunity for the Privateers to pounce. Salo Iza drove in a pair of runs with a single and Darren Willis had an RBI double as the Privateers sent 10 batters to the plate.

KEEP THE LINE MOVING
Privateer pitchers, starting with Poche kept the Braves off balance throughout the night. Poche recorded five outs in his outing. Brett Jones followed suit and recorded the last out of the second in three pitches. From there, six more pitchers came to the hill and combined to limit the Braves to three hits.

Throughout the night, the Braves only got one runner to third on the night. Jordan McGowan got hung up on a strikeout between third and home and was caught in a relay to end the inning. From there, the Braves only had three baserunners for the rest of the night.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Tresten Kennard went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, his first of the season, and three RBI. Iza went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI while Willis added three RBI on two hits. Privateer pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts on the evening. It was the fourth consecutive game Privateer pitchers struck out double digit batters.
