New Orleans Adds Medley and Briggs to Compliance and Student-Athlete Enrichment Staff

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Athletics Compliance and Student-Athlete Enrichment department is back to full strength after the hiring of Stephen Medley as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Trajuan Briggs as the Eligibility and Academic Specialist, respectively, announced by the university on Friday.

"I'm thrilled to have Stephen and Trajuan joining #NOLAsTeam," Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Services Kirsten Elleby said. "We continue to get better every day and our student-athletes' experiences will only be enhanced by our talented team of professionals in our student services unit."

"I'm honored to join the administrative team at UNO as their newest Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance," Medley said. "I'm excited to get back to sports in helping UNO get to the top of the Southland conference and beyond!"

Prior to New Orleans, Medley served most recently as the Assistant Director of Compliance for just under two and half years with Southland rival Southeastern. He also had stops as a compliance assistant at both Middle Tennessee State University (one year) and the University of Southern Mississippi (three years).

"Stephen comes back to New Orleans after spending some time at a fellow Southland conference institution and is ready to lead our NCAA Compliance efforts in his critical role on the Lakefront," Elleby added. "We believe he is a great fit in this position due to his in depth knowledge of the NCAA rules, high ethical standards, and his approachable and respectful nature.  I look forward to working with him to best serve our student-athletes, coaches, and campus community."

A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., Medley graduated with his B.A. in Computer Science from Southern Miss in 2010 and followed it up by earning his M.B.A. from the institution in 2017. He also earned a Certificate in Sports Law from Tulane University in 2014.
 

TRAJUAN BRIGGS - NEW ELIGIBILITY AND ACADEMIC SPECIALIST

"I am thrilled to join the staff at the University of New Orleans in a space that allows me to work directly with student-athletes while learning the NCAA at a legislation level," Briggs said. "I'm thankful and look forward to making an impact in the department."Briggs2

Prior to coming to the Lakefront, Briggs worked as research and development coordinator with Prime U in Dallas, Texas. Briggs launched research projects and developed baseline assessments and impact measure reports to provide analytics on the development of programming. He also worked as a consultant for athletic departments and provided recommendations based on research.

Before that, Briggs worked at his alma mater, the University of New Mexico. Briggs was Chief of Staff of the Graduate and Professional Student Association, Director of the Lobo Leadership Academy, and a senior academic advisor for the College of Arts and Sciences. Briggs was also a graduate assistant on the Lobos football team from 2016-17.

"Trajuan brings a wealth of skills and experiences as a former student-athlete and higher education professional," Elleby concluded. "He truly desires to make an impact on young people and will be a fantastic mentor to our student-athletes.  I am positive that he will make immediate contributions to our department in this new and important role, as his passion and enthusiasm will make for a bright future in this field."

Briggs earned his bachelor's in university studies and communications from New Mexico in 2014. He then earned his master's of science in sports administration in 2019. 
 
Both Medley and Briggs officially began their time with the Privateers in August 2020.
