Cross Country Program Announces Spring Schedule

Three meets highlight the New Orleans cross country schedule, moved from the Fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes the Southland Conference Championships on Feb. 15.

NEW ORLEANS XC SCHEDULE

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans men's and women's cross country teams, looking to build off record-setting seasons for both programs, have announced their 2021 Spring schedule, per distance coach Brock Moreaux on Friday.

The highlight of the schedule is a return trip to Florida State for the FSU Winter Cross Country Classic and a battle for the Southland Conference crown at the Championships meet at nearby Southeastern.

The Privateers will get the season started with the Southland Conference Preview Meet hosted by Southeastern in Hammond, La. on Monday, Jan. 25. The races will allow teams to get a sneak peak of the course at Oak Knoll Country Club, the site of the Southland Cross Country Championships that take place just a few weeks later.

A group of student-athletes will then head to the Florida State Winter Cross Country Classic that takes place on Friday, Feb. 5 in Tallahassee, Fla. It will be the second straight year that the Privateers have made the trip to FSU to take on some of the best that the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Southern Region has to offer.

The season will conclude with the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships on Monday, Feb. 15. New Orleans will make the return trip to Hammond with a chance to improve on last year's record-setting showing; the most team points scored and lowest team finish for both the men's and women's programs since joining the Southland.

The road to the NCAA Division I National Championships is tougher this year without regional meets happening across the country. On the individual side, returner Arina Kleshchukova looks to become the first Privateer in school history to advance to back-to-back cross country national championship meets. With changes to the qualification process, the top individual finisher at each conference championship who is not part of a qualifying team will advance to nationals.

The NCAA DI Cross Country National Championships are set for March 15.
